John Guare, the acclaimed author of Six Degrees of Separation and The House of Blue Leaves, is bringing an exciting new play to Lincoln Center Theater: Tickets are now available for A Free Man of Color, featuring Tony Award winner Jeffrey Wright in the title role, plus rapper/actor mos (previously known as Mos Def) and rising movie star Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood). Performances begin on October 21 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, with opening night set for November 18, directed by George C. Wolfe.
Described as a freewheeling epic, A Free Man of Color is set in 1801 New Orleans. Title character Jacques Cornet is a new-world Don Juan and the wealthiest inhabitant of this sexually charged and racially progressive city. Jacques thinks all is well in his paradise until history intervenes, setting off a chain of events that no one, much less this free man of color, realizes is about to splinter the world.
This eagerly awaited production reunites Wright and Wolfe, both of whom won Tonys for the original production of Angels in America, and represents Guare’s return to LCT. Get tickets today for A Free Man of Color.
